LAHORE: (Thursday, February 12, 2026): Punjab University Centre for Civility and Integrity Development (CCID) organized a seminar in connection with the Observance of International Day on Prevention of Violent Extremism here on Thursday. On this occasion, PU VC Prof Dr Muhammad Ali, Chairman Department of Political Science Prof Dr Rana Eijaz, former Director Research at NACTA Dr Dayyab Gillani, CCID Director Dr Shabbir Ahmad Khan, Dr Muhammad Sharreh Qazi, faculty members and students were present. In his address, PU VC Prof Dr Muhammad Ali pointed out certain weaknesses within Pakistani society that hinder efforts to counter extremism. He observed that national unity is being undermined by preoccupation with trivial and peripheral issues. He emphasized that adopting the mindset of a true Pakistani is essential for achieving national consensus. He said that rising above group, linguistic, sectarian, and regional differences and prioritizing national interest is the only path toward progress and stability. Addressing the youth, he stated that no identity surpasses that of being Pakistani and belonging to one nation, and that placing national interest above personal desires is the key to the success of nations. Dr Dayyab Gillani delivered the keynote address and presented a comprehensive research report identifying eight key themes. He explained that these themes can help classify and identify violent and extremist tendencies present in textbooks. According to him, the report not only highlights deficiencies in the existing curriculum but also provides a solid foundation for meaningful curriculum reform. He expressed hope that substantive and effective reforms would be implemented in light of the proposed recommendations, noting that previous changes had largely been superficial in nature. At the conclusion of the event, participants congratulated Dr Shabbir Ahmad Khan, for successfully organizing a meaningful and impactful seminar on the occasion of the Observance of International Day for the Prevention of Violent Extremism.
